SUBFRAME Front Bonded Rubber Bushing, Replacing (Multi-Link Suspension): Notes

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

CAUTION:

This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview and parts information prior to starting procedure.

Mandatory Replacement Parts 

NOTE:

If a bonded rubber bushing is faulty, then the bonded rubber bushing on the opposite side must also be replaced. For the correct allocation. Refer to the parts information.

Check the other bushings before replacing a faulty bonded rubber bushing.

If there are any tears or other visible damages, replace the bonded rubber bushing.

Identify mounting location to subframe before removing the bonded rubber bushing.

Pressing Out Bonded Rubber Bushing, Front: 

-- Secure the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME, SECURING .

-- If equipped, remove the underbody panels. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS / UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

AWD Vehicles: 

-- Check for a factory-applied marking (colored dot) on the joint washer and all wheel drive clutch flange -arrows-. If there is not one, mark the location of the joint washer and the all wheel drive clutch flange to each other -arrows-.

-- Remove rear driveshaft tube from rear final drive with joint washer and vibration damper -arrows-. Refer to the appropriate service information. .

-- Support the driveshaft -A- on the tunnel brace -1- with a wooden block and if necessary re-install the tunnel brace.

-- Move rear driveshaft tube as far as possible in direction of transmission.

Continuation for All Vehicles: 

-- Remove tie rods. Refer to TIE ROD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Secure both sides of the vehicle on the hoist arms using :T10038  -1-.

WARNING:

The vehicle could slide off the hoist if it is not secured.

-- Unclip the brake line on the left side -arrows-.

NOTE:

The clips will get damaged while doing this and will have to be replaced.

-- Carefully lower the subframe with its components approximately. 40 mm.

NOTE:

When lowering, make sure there is enough clearance between the brake lines, electrical lines and centering pins to the driveshaft.

-- Pry the anti-twist mechanism -1- near the tabs off the bonded rubber bushing.

-- Mark the installation location of the bonded rubber bushing on the subframe with a felt-tip pen -1-.

NOTE:

Apply the mark -1- on the subframe in the middle of the recess on the bonded rubber mounting.

-- Mount the tools as illustrated.

- :T10263/5 

- :T10356/1 

- Subframe 

- :T10356/2  , side with shoulder points to subframe

- :VAS6178  with :T10205/13 

- :T10263/5 

- :T10263/4 

-- Pretension Special Tools.

-- Press out the bonded rubber mount.

NOTE:

When removing the bonded rubber mounting, the bearing outer race is shorn off. There is a loud crack when this happens.

After removing the bonded rubber bushing, it must be removed from the :T10356/2  by tapping lightly with a hammer.
