Starter, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With 1.4L, 1.8L, 2.0L TFSI- And 1.6L TDI Engine And DSG Transmission: Removing

-- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING, ENGINE COMPARTMENT BATTERY .

-- If present, detach the transmission ventilation -1- from the battery tray and set aside by releasing the catch -2- and removing the transmission ventilation upward -arrow-.

-- Turn the transmission ventilation to the side near the starter.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER [For engine(s) CRUA, DEJA][For engine(s) CRUA, DEJA] Air Filter or AIR FILTER [For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC] .

-- If present, remove the nut -2-.

-- Remove the ground cable -1-.

NOTE:

Depending on the date of manufacture, the ground cable can also be installed on the upper bolt.

If equipped remove the nut -3- and bolt -1-.

Free up the coolant pipe -2-.

-- Disconnect the connector -4- by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down.

-- Remove the cap -5-.

-- Remove the terminal 30/B+ wire -6- from the starter.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the starter upward.
