Transmission, Removing [CNSA, CNTC, CYFB, CNSB]
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Engine Support Bridge: 10-222A with the Engine Support - Bracket with Spindle and Hook: 10-222A/31
- Engine Sling - Engine Bracket: 2024A/1
- Transmission Support: 3282
- Transmission Support - Pins 29: 3282/34
- Transmission Support - Mounting Plate 42A: 3282/42A
- Engine/Gearbox Jack: VAG1383A
- Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm: 3094
- Engine Bung Set: VAS6122
- : T40093/3-5 from the Engine Support Supplement Kit: T40093A
- : T40150/4 from the Engine Support Bracket: T40150
- Engine Support Bridge - Engine Support 4: 10-222A/4
Tool Development
-- If the adapter for : 10-222A/4 does not have the indicated holes -arrow- shown they must be added.
- Dimension -a- = 225mm.
- Hole diameter = 12.5 mm
Procedure
Observe general notes. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .
Follow the rules for clean working conditions. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
-- Press the button on the electromechanical parking brake to activate it.
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Remove the battery tray -1-. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Removing starter -3-. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
There is a risk of destroying the control module (Mechatronic) with electrostatic discharge.
- Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.
-- To electrostatically discharge, touch the ground (without glove).
-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and disconnect the connector -1- for the DSG Transmission Mechatronic -J743-
-- Remove the subframe -9- and steering gear. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVE AXLE .
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
Use a cloth to catch any leaking coolant.
-- Clamp off coolant hoses on transmission oil cooler with hose clamps : 3094 .
-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows-, remove the coolant hoses from the transmission fluid cooler.
-- Remove the bolts -1- and set aside the Transmission Coolant Valve -N488-.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the : VAS6122 .
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-, and remove the bracket from the oil pan.
The threaded bolts are welded to the front of the oil pan.
-- Remove all the bolts in the transmission to engine connection that are accessible from above.
The bolt -3- is located in the opening for the starter.
-- Remove the plenum chamber cover -5-. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 2.0L DIESEL or ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 2.0L .
-- Vehicles with a 1.8L engine: Unlock the retaining tab in direction of -arrow- and remove the engine cover mount -1-.
-- Remove caps above the front suspension strut bolted connections.
-- Place the : 10-222A/31-1 and : 10-222A/31-1 on the suspension strut mounts.
- The ribs -arrow- faces the direction of travel.
-- Position the : 10-222A/4 with : T40091/3 as shown in the illustration.
-- Install the additional tools on the left in the engine compartment as illustrated.
-- Attach the left : 10-222A/11 carabiner hook to the engine lifting eye -arrow-.
-- Slightly tension the engine/transmission assembly with the spindle, do not lift.
-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and remove transmission bracket -A-.
Vehicles with a 2.0L engine when lowering pay attention to the washer fluid reservoir.
-- Lower the engine/transmission assembly with the : 10-222A/11 until dimension -a- is reached between the transmission housing and the transmission mount.
- Dimension -a- = maximum 65 mm.
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and remove the right drive axle heat shield.
-- Remove the left and right drive axle from the transmission -arrow-. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Tie up the drive axles to the rear.
Pay attention that the drive axle surface protection is not damaged.
AWD Vehicles
-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and the bevel box bracket.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- Mark the position of the flexible disc and the bevel box flange shaft to each other for later use.
-- Using a lever to counterhold the triangular flange, remove the driveshaft from the bevel box -arrows-.
-- Press engine/transmission assembly forward slightly and remove driveshaft from bevel box.
Risk of damaging sealing ring -arrow - in driveshaft flange.
- Press driveshaft horizontally as far back and to the right side of the vehicle as possible.
If seal is damaged, driveshaft must be replaced.
All Vehicles
-- Remove the bolts -1- from the cable mounting bracket.
Danger of damaging the selector lever cable.
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
-- Remove the lock washer -3- -arrow- and then remove the selector lever cable from the transmission.
Ignore -2-.
To remove the S tronic 0D9 transmission the : 3282 must be equipped with the : 3282/42A .
-- Place the : 3282 on the : VAG1383A .
-- Align the arms of the transmission support so that they match up with the holes in the : 3282/42A .
-- Install support elements as shown on the : 3282/42A The "retaining plate with hole" is used as a front support element.
-- Place the : VAG1383A under the transmission.
- The arrow symbol on the adjusting plate points in the direction of travel.
-- Align the : 3282 so that it is parallel to the transmission.
-- Install the : 3282/29 in the transmission.
-- Attach the "retaining plate with hole" securely to the transmission -arrow- as shown.
-- Insert the last support element in the transmission as shown.
-- Support the transmission by lifting it from underneath using the : VAG1383A .
-- Remove the remaining bolts from transmission to engine connection.
-- Remove the transmission from the alignment sleeves.
-- Remove the transmission from the engine.
-- Lower the transmission carefully using the : VAG1383A .
-- When lowering, change position of transmission with spindles on : 3282 .
