Fuel Gauge Sensor -G-, CHECKING, VEHICLES WITH AWD

Analog/Digital Multimeter :FLU83III
Connector Test Set:VAG1594D
Trim Removal Wedge:3409

Procedure

-- Move the front seats all the way forward.

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to SEAT BENCH/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unclip the sealing flange cover -1- at the tabs in direction of -arrows- using the :3409 .

-- Unlock the connector safety catch and disconnect the connector -2- on the right sealing flange.

NOTE:

Ignore -1-.

-- Release the connector safety catch to disconnect the connector -1- on the right sealing flange.

NOTE:

Ignore -2-.

The Fuel Gauge Sensor -G- is Installed:

NOTE:

The fuel tank must be filled completely in order to have an exact reading of the resistance value at "Tank full" when it is installed. Drive at least 500 meters after completely filling the fuel tank to get rid of any bubbles in the fuel tank. Then fill the fuel tank again.

The contact assignment -2- at the connector is dependent on the model.

-- Connect the multimeter for resistance measurements shown in the table.

1 + 3	297 to 303 Ω	78 to 80 Ω
1 + 5	37 to 45 Ω	254 to 262 Ω
3 + 5 ¹⁾	335 to 345 Ω	335 to 345 Ω

The Fuel Gauge Sensor -G- is Removed:

NOTE:

To check the resistance values "Tank full" or "Tank empty", the Fuel Gauge Sensor -G- must be removed and the sensor floater must move to the upper or lower stop.

The contact assignment -2- at the connector is dependent on the model.

The following values are obtained when the fuel gauge sensor is removed because of the greater movement of the floater arm:

The Fuel Gauge Sensor -G- is faulty when the following is detected:

Large deviations in measured values
Measured value 0 Ω (short circuit).
Measured value ∞ Ω (open circuit).
No fault in the wires.

-- Install the fuel delivery unit/Fuel Gauge Sensor -G-. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) .
