Emptying a Fuel Tank More Than 3/4 Full

NOTE:

The adapter -1- and cone piece -2- from the :VAS5190A will not be used.

Push the adapter -1- on the hose slightly reward.

-- Attach the insulating tape -arrow- to the hose at a distance -a- from the end of the suction hose.

A3/Sportback with FWD and torsion beam axle: -a- = 1010 mm.
A3/Sportback/Sedan with FWD and multi-link suspension: -a- = 960 mm.
Vehicles with a high-voltage system: -a- = 900 mm.
A3 Cabriolet with FWD/AWD: -a- = 765 mm.
A3/Sportback/Sedan with AWD: -a- = 960 mm.

NOTE:

A flap -1- is located in the fuel tank on the lower end of the filler neck -2-. It must not be damaged by the suction hose of the :VAS5190A . Therefore slide in hose only up to the marking -arrow- applied earlier.

-- Slide the suction hose of the :VAS5190A far enough into the fuel tank until the marking applied earlier -arrow- is on the edge of the fuel filler tube.

-- Empty the fuel tank through the fuel filler tube.

-- Carefully remove the suction hose.

NOTE:

When no more fuel can be extracted, the tank is emptied only enough for the sealing flange to be opened without danger.

Vehicles With Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and With All Wheel Drive (AWD):

-- Open the sealing flange. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Pull the sealing flange out of the opening in the fuel tank just a little.

-- Remove seal on the opening in the fuel tank.

-- Slide the suction hose from the :VAS5190A into the fuel tank between the sealing flange and the fuel delivery unit.

-- Siphon fuel with the :VAS5190A through the opening.

NOTE:

For AWD vehicles in the North America market, there is no sealing flange on the left side of the fuel tank. After evacuating the right fuel tank chamber, place the suction hose from the :VAS5190A through the right sealing flange as deep as possible into the left fuel tank chamber to continue extracting fuel.

WARNING:

Danger due to escaping fuel.

Because on North America vehicles after siphoning a small amount of fuel can remain in the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be handled with special care when removing and installing.

Vehicles With Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD)

-- Open the sealing flange. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Pull the sealing flange out of the opening in the fuel tank just a little.

-- Remove seal on the opening in the fuel tank.

-- Slide the suction hose from the :VAS5190A into the fuel tank between the sealing flange and the fuel delivery unit.

-- Siphon fuel with the :VAS5190A through the opening.
