Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Cover the open engine components from debris.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the oil pan upper section with a commercially available chemical sealant remover.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

• Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (tube nozzle diameter: about 2 to 3 mm).

• There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
• Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

If the Belt Pulley Side Sealing Flange Is Not Replaced

-- Apply sealant bead -2- to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section -1- as shown in the illustration.

• After removing the old silicone seal for the cylinder block surface, the lower sealing flange surface on the pulley side has an approximately 1 mm offset.
• This must be evened out onto the corresponding area of the oil pan sealing surface using the necessary sealant application.
• Near the four sealing surface holes between the -arrows-, circle the holes 3 to 4 mm with sealant.
• Near the sealing flange sealing surface on the belt pulley side -between the arrows- : 3 to 4 mm.
• Near the cylinder block sealing surfaces and the sealing flange on the transmission side: 2 to 3 mm.
• The bead of sealant must be able to be replaced in both height and width of the previous silicone seal near the sealing flange area on the belt pulley side.
• The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Apply sealant bead -2- evenly to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section -1- as shown in the illustration.

• Near the four sealing surface holes between the -arrows-, circle the holes 2 to 3 mm with sealant.
• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
• The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

Continuation for All Work Procedures

-- Insert the splash wall.

-- Position the oil pan upper section and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

• The oil pan upper section must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.

• The oil pan upper section must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.
• Replace the bolts.
• The three bolts are specially coated with sealing paint, pay attention to the allocation when installing.
• When installing the oil pan upper section to a removed engine, make sure that the oil pan upper section is positioned flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side.
• Allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes after installing the oil pan upper section. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

-- Fill with engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to appropriate service information.
