A - Emptying A Fuel Tank More Than 3/4 Full

A - EMPTYING A FUEL TANK MORE THAN ³ / ₄ FULL

NOTE:

The adapter -1- and cone piece -2- from the Fuel Extraction Device :VAS5190A will not be used.

Push the adapter -1- on the hose slightly reward.

-- Attach the insulating tape -arrow- to the hose at a distance -a- from the end of the suction hose.

Vehicles with Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and torsion beam axle: -a- = 1010 mm.
Vehicles with Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and multi-link suspension: -a- = 960 mm.
A3 Cabriolet with Front Wheel Drive (FWD): -a- = 765 mm.
All Wheel Drive AWD vehicles: -a- = 960 mm.

-- Open the fuel filler door.

-- Remove the fuel filler cap -arrow-.

-- Install the Fuel Funnel :T40256 all the way into the fuel filler tube.

-- Slide the suction hose of the Fuel Extraction Device :VAS5190A far enough into the fuel tank until the marking applied earlier -arrow- is on the edge of the fuel filler tube.

NOTE:

A flap -1- is located in the fuel tank on the lower end of the filler neck -2-. It must not be damaged by the suction hose of the Fuel Extraction Device:VAS5190A . Therefore slide in hose only up to the marking -arrow- applied earlier.

-- Slide the suction hose of the Fuel Extraction Device :VAS5190A far enough into the fuel tank until the marking applied earlier -arrow- is on the edge of the fuel filler tube.

-- Empty the fuel tank through the fuel filler tube.

-- Remove the extracting hose carefully.

NOTE:

When no more fuel can be extracted, the tank is emptied only enough for the locking flange to be opened without danger.

-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Front Wheel Drive (FWD) Vehicles:

-- Remove the fuel delivery unit. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Extract the fuel from the fuel tank chamber through the opening using the Fuel Extraction Device:VAS5190A .

All Wheel Drive AWD Vehicles:

-- Remove the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169-. Refer to FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 2 - G169-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Extract the fuel from both fuel tank chambers through the opening for the locking flange with the Fuel Level Sensor 2 -G169-. Use the Fuel Extracting Device:VAS5190A .
