Transmission Fluid Pan, Removing And Installing: Installing
-- Cover the open engine components with a clean cloth.
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Clean the sealant residue on the oil pan upper section -1- using the corresponding brush from the cleaning set for the sealing surfaces : VAS 294 019 .
-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the oil pan upper section with a commercially available chemical sealant remover.
-- Additionally, clean all the sealing surfaces with cleaning solution.
- The cleaning solution activates the surfaces before applying sealant and is pivotal for the successful seal bonding.
-- Very carefully clean the sealing surface on the belt pulley side sealing flange -arrow-.
- Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 to 3 mm).
There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Use the Applicator Gun: VAS 6966 to apply.
-- Apply bead of sealant as shown to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan.
- After removing the old silicone seal for the cylinder block surface, the lower sealing flange surface on the pulley side has an approximately 1 mm offset
- This must be evened out onto the corresponding area of the oil pan sealing surface using the necessary sealant application.
- Near the sealing flange sealing surface on the belt pulley side -arrows- : 3 to 4 mm.
- Near the cylinder block sealing surfaces and the sealing flange on the transmission side: 2 to 3 mm.
- The bead of sealant must be able to be replaced in both height and width of the previous silicone seal near the sealing flange area on the belt pulley side.
- The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.
The oil pan must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.
When installing the oil pan upper section to a removed engine, make sure that the oil pan upper section is positioned flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side.
Allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes after installing the oil pan upper section. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.
-- Replace the baffle plate.
-- Position the oil pan and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.
- The oil pan must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.
-- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL, FILLING and ENGINE OIL LEVEL, CHECKING AND CORRECTING IF NECESSARY
