Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Cover the open engine components from debris.
-- Clean the sealant residue on the oil pan upper section -1- using the corresponding brush from the cleaning set for the sealing surfaces : VAS 294 019 .
-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the oil pan upper section with a commercially available chemical sealant remover.
- The cleaning solution activates the surfaces before applying sealant and is pivotal for the successful seal bonding.
-- Clean all the sealing surfaces with cleaning solution.
-- Very carefully clean the sealing surface on the belt pulley side sealing flange -arrow-.
- Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (tube nozzle diameter: approximately 2 to 3 mm).
- There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Use the Applicator Gun: VAS 6966 to apply.
-- Apply sealant bead -2- to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section -1- as shown.
- After removing the old silicone seal for the cylinder block surface, the lower sealing flange surface on the pulley side has an approximately 1 mm offset
- This must be evened out onto the corresponding area of the oil pan sealing surface using the necessary sealant application.
- Near the four sealing surface holes between the -arrows-, circle the holes 3 to 4 mm with sealant.
- Near the sealing flange sealing surface on the belt pulley side -between the arrows- : 3 to 4 mm.
- Near the cylinder block sealing surfaces and the sealing flange on the transmission side: 2 to 3 mm.
- The bead of sealant must be able to be replaced in both height and width of the previous silicone seal near the sealing flange area on the belt pulley side.
- The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.
- The oil pan upper section must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.
- Replace the bolts.
- The three bolts are specially coated with sealing paint, pay attention to the allocation when installing.
- Allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes after installing the oil pan upper section. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.
-- Insert the splash wall.
-- Position the oil pan upper section and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.
- When installing the oil pan upper section to a removed engine, make sure that the oil pan upper section is positioned flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side.
-- Then fill the engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL, FILLING and ENGINE OIL LEVEL, CHECKING AND CORRECTING IF NECESSARY
