Valve Timing, Checking:
- Only turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Turn the crankshaft by the toothed belt sprocket bolt two turns in the direction of engine rotation until the crankshaft is once again just in front of "TDC".
-- Mount the Crankshaft Lock: T10490 back on the crankshaft toothed belt sprocket.
-- Turn the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, until the pin -arrow- on the crankshaft stop fits into the sealing flange.
- If the crankshaft was turned past "TDC" : Turn the crankshaft again two turns until it is just in front of "TDC". Then secure the crankshaft from moving using the Crankshaft Lock: T10490 .
- It must be possible to lock the camshaft hub with the Diesel Injection Pump Locking Pin: 3359 .
- It is very difficult to find the locking point on the high pressure pump hub. A small variance -arrow- does not affect engine operation.
- The pointer on the tensioning roller -2- must be in the middle between the tabs -1- and -3- on the base plate.
- Permissible lateral offset: maximum 5 mm.
If the conditions are met, then continue with the correct valve timing. Refer to Continue if the valve timing is correct: .
If the conditions are not met, correct the valve timing. Refer to Valve Timing, Correcting: .
