Crankshaft Needle Bearing, Replacing
Only for vehicles equipped with a DSG transmission
Vehicles with a dual-clutch transmission must have a needle bearing inside the crankshaft. Refer to the Parts Information.
Always replace the needle bearing after the engine and transmission have been separated.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Bearing Installer - Bearing Press Piece :VW 207 C
- Internal Puller :VAS 251 635
- Counter Support :VAS 251 621
TIP:
Vehicles with a manual transmission do not have a needle bearing inside the crankshaft.
Vehicles with a dual-clutch transmission must have a needle bearing inside the crankshaft. Refer to the Parts Information.

Needle Bearing, Removing
-- Remove the needle bearing -1- using the Internal Puller :VAS 251 635 -A- and Counter Support :VAS 251 621 -B- from the crankshaft -2-.
-- The internal puller must be positioned behind the needle rim -arrow-.
Installing
-- The side of needle bearing with writing on it must be readable when installed.
-- Clean the bearing seat in the crankshaft and apply a thin coat of grease.
-- Drive in using the Bearing Installer - Bearing Press Piece :VW 207 C or Alignment Tool - Clutch Plate :3176 .
Installation depth dimension a = 2.0 mm
TIP:
If the needle bearing is unintentionally pushed in to deeply, it must be replaced, because it will be damaged when it is removed again.
