Overview - Muffler, Vehicles With A Rear Muffler

1. Rear Muffler
   • Original equipment one unit with the center muffler. If a repair is required replace each separately
   • Separating point. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS, SEPARATING, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
   • Exhaust System, Installing without Tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
2. Nut
   • 25 Nm
3. Rear Clamping Sleeve
   • Before tightening, align the exhaust system without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
   • Installation position. Refer to Fig 3.
   • Tighten the threaded connections evenly
4. Bolt
   • 23 Nm
5. Bracket
6. Retaining Loop
   • Replace if damaged
7. Nut
   • 25 Nm
8. Front Clamping Sleeve
   • Before tightening, align the exhaust system without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
   • Installation position. Refer to Fig 2.
   • Tighten the threaded connections evenly
9. Seal
   • Always replace
10. Nut
    • 25 Nm
11. Catalytic Converter
    • Protect catalytic converter from shocks and impact stress
    • Removing and installing. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Exhaust System, Installing without Tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
12. Nut
    • 40 Nm
    • Always replace
    • Coat turbocharger stud bolts with hot bolt paste.
    • Hot bolt paste.
13. Gasket
    • Always replace
14. Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39- and Oxygen Sensor Heater -Z19-
    • Removing and installing. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR -G39-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
15. Oxygen Sensor after Catalytic Converter -G130- and Heater for Oxygen Sensor 1 after Catalytic Converter -Z29-
    • Removing and installing. Refer to OXYGEN SENSOR AFTER CATALYTIC CONVERTER -G130-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
16. Front Muffler
    • With a coupling
    • Decoupling element must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it may be damaged
    • Do not load decoupling element on cable
    • Do not damage wire mesh at decoupling element
    • depending on the version, there may be a front exhaust pipe installed instead of a front muffler -Item  ) OVERVIEW - MUFFLER, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER - Front Exhaust Pipe
    • Removing and installing. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Exhaust System, Installing without Tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
17. Front Exhaust Pipe
    • With a coupling
    • Decoupling element must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it may be damaged
    • Do not load decoupling element on cable
    • Do not damage wire mesh at decoupling element
    • depending on the version, there may be a front exhaust pipe installed instead of a front muffler -Item  ) OVERVIEW - MUFFLER, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER - Front Muffler
    • Removing and installing. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Exhaust System, Installing without Tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
18. Bolt
    • 23 Nm
19. Mount
    • Replace if damaged
    • Check the pretension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
20. Center Muffler
    • Original equipment as one unit with the rear muffler. If a repair is required replace each separately
    • Separating point. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS, SEPARATING, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
    • Exhaust System, Installing without Tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
21. Mount
    • Replace if damaged
    • Check the pretension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING FREE OF TENSION, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
22. Bolt
    • 23 Nm
23. Tail Pipe
    • For repairs, replace each separately. Refer to TAIL PIPES, REPLACING, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
    • Separating point between the rear muffler and the tailpipe. Refer to TAIL PIPES, REPLACING, VEHICLES WITH A REAR MUFFLER .
24. Clamp
    • 60 Nm

-- Install the clamping sleeve in the angle position shown.

• Threaded connections point toward the right
• The nuts face up
• α = approximately 20°

-- Install the clamping sleeve so that the ends of the bolt do not extend beyond the lower edge of the clamping sleeve.
