Overview - Evaporator Housing

-- Remove The Evaporator Housing From The A/C Unit. Refer To EVAPORATOR HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  and to OVERVIEW - ATTACHMENTS FOR HEATER AND A/C UNIT AND AIR INTAKE HOUSING, "BASIS" VERSION  ("Basis" A/C Unit, Disassembling and Assembling) or to OVERVIEW - ATTACHMENTS FOR HEATER AND A/C UNIT AND AIR INTAKE HOUSING, "CONVENIENCE" VERSION  ("Convenience" A/C Unit, Disassembling and Assembling).

2. Expansion Valve
   • Already removed when the A/C unit was removed. Refer to HEATER AND A/C UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
   • Refrigerant lines with inner heat exchanger from the expansion valve, disconnecting and reconnecting. Refer to REFRIGERANT LINES WITH INNER HEAT EXCHANGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
   • Removing and installing. Refer to EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
   • There are different versions. Refer to EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
3. O-Ring
   • Replacing. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT SEALS
4. O-Ring
   • Replacing. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT SEALS
5. Mounting Plate
   • Removing and installing. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
6. Rubber Grommet
   • For sealing the opening through the plenum chamber rear wall for the refrigerant lines
   • The installed supporting ring was already removed when the A/C unit was removed; pay attention to correct installation position. Refer to HEATER AND A/C UNIT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (Removing the A/C unit)
7. Evaporator Housing Upper Section
   • There are different versions. Refer to -item  ) OVERVIEW - EVAPORATOR HOUSING - EVAPORATOR.
8. Evaporator
   • This version is installed by the manufacturer.
   • Removing with the A/C unit installed. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
   • There are different versions. Refer to EXPANSION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
     NOTE:

     From The Start Of Production Up To The Changeover From MY 2012, Evaporators Approximately 40 Mm Wide (Block Depth) Were Installed (A/C Unit Part Number "8K_ 820 005"). These Evaporators Can Be Replaced With The A/C Unit Still Installed.

     From MY 2012 as a running-change, evaporators approximately 50 mm wide (block depth) are being installed (A/C unit with the part number "8T_ 820 005") depending on the vehicle version. These evaporators can be replaced only together with the evaporator housing (with the A/C unit removed).

     Pay attention to the correct allocation of the expansion valve to the evaporator (there are different versions).

     For refrigerant R1234yf, there must not be any separable connection points in the refrigerant circuit in the vehicle interior (for example, separating points on the refrigerant lines to the evaporator). Therefore the A/C unit (with the evaporator housing) must always be removed on these vehicles and the evaporator with the refrigerant lines must be completely replaced. 9. Evaporator Cover
   • Pay attention to the correct mounting on the evaporator. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

11. Cover for Refrigerant Lines

    • The bracket equalizes the position tolerance of the A/C unit to the center tunnel.

    • Pay attention to the correct mounting on the evaporator. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 
    • Depending on the version, prior to installation, the cover must be reworked in the area where refrigerant pipes connect to the evaporator. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

25. Replacement Evaporator Cover
    • Included in the replacement evaporator kit.
    • Pay attention to the correct mounting on the evaporator. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  (Evaporator with the A/C unit installed, removing and installing).
      NOTE:

26. Replacement Evaporator
    • This version is a replacement part.
    • The replacement evaporator includes the listed components (-item  ) OVERVIEW - EVAPORATOR HOUSING - REFRIGERANT PIPE TO THE REPLACEMENT EVAPORATOR through -item  ) OVERVIEW - EVAPORATOR HOUSING - SEPARATOR WALL).
    • Installing with the A/C unit installed. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
      NOTE:

27. Separator Wall
    • Included in the replacement evaporator kit.
    • After installing the replacement evaporator, this separating wall is installed in the lower section of evaporator housing and sealed. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
