Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Plastigauge^®

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFTS, REMOVING, USED CAMSHAFTS, REINSTALLING ON CYLINDER BANK 1 (RIGHT) .

-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.

-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.

-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.

-- Place Plastigauge^® over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing.

Plastigauge^® must rest in center of bearing.

-- Reinstall the camshaft with bearing caps and fasten with the old bolts, do not turn the camshaft.

Cylinder bank 1 (right) bearing cap - tightening specification and sequence. Refer to Tightening Specifications
Cylinder bank 2 (left) bearing cap - tightening specification and sequence. Tightening Specifications

-- Remove the camshafts with the bearing caps again.

-- Compare width of Plastigauge^® with calibrated scale.
