Ribbed Belt For Accessories, Checking

CAUTION:

Engine damage caused by the camshaft drive jumping off.

  • Only rotate the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.

Maintenance point only applies to certain countries. Refer to appropriate service information.

Removal Procedures: 

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - CYNB , or RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - CTGE, CEUC , or RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - CPNB , or RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING - CREC, CREH . .

Procedure: 

-- Check the removed ribbed belt along the entire length as well as the visible belt pulleys on the engine. Note the following points when doing this:

-- Applies to vehicles with power steering pump: check the generator free-running hub.

   

-- If there are defects, replace the damaged components.

Installation procedures occur in reverse order.

NOTE:

The illustration shows a possible damage pattern of the belt pulley. The material wear at the affected flanks for the rib treads can appear in various forms.
