Vehicles with 4-Cylinder Engine

-- Install the upper starter bolt -2- in the transmission.

-- Install spacer sleeve -arrow- on the bolt -2-.

For All Vehicles

-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.

-- Vehicles with a 3.0L TFSI engine: Position the transmission on the engine and tighten the bolts -6 through 11-.

-- Vehicles with a 3.0L TDI Biturbo engine: Attach the transmission to the engine and the tighten the bolts -3, 6 to 11-.

-- Fasten the starter with the bolts -1 and 2- while doing so make sure the locking piece fits correctly.

-- Remove the :T40170  .

-- Lift the transmission and tighten the bolts on the tunnel crossmember. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .

-- Loosen the tensioning strap and guide the :VAS6931  with the : T40173  under the transmission.

NOTE:

The following step is necessary to make sure the torque converter rests on the drive plate evenly and is not tilted.

-- Press the torque converter -2- against the drive plate -3- slightly in the direction of -arrow- using an assembly lever -1-.

-- Attach the torque converter to the drive plate as follows:

NOTE:

Use the :VAG1332/14  to tighten.

-- Install the first bolt -arrow- and tighten by hand (2 Nm).

-- Continue turning the crankshaft 180° in the direction of the engine rotation using the :T40058  -arrow-.

NOTE:

The 3.0 Liter TFSI engine is shown.

-- With the crankshaft in this position, tighten the bolt -arrow- to 60 Nm.

-- Continue turning the crankshaft 60° and tighten the remaining 5 bolts to 60 Nm.

-- Tighten the remaining engine/transmission connecting bolts.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following: 

-- Install selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Attach the steering intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Installing the drive axle and drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE .

-- Install the subframe heat shield. Refer to MOLDINGS, TRIMS, EXTENSIONS AND TRIM PANELS .

-- Install the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) pipes to the ATF cooler. Refer to OVERVIEW - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) CIRCUIT .

-- Install the radiator with the fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CTGE, CEUC] or FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CPNB] or FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CREC, CREH] .

-- Install the driveshaft. .

-- Install the right coolant pipe on the transmission. Refer toCOOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CTGE, CEUC] or COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CPNB] or COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CREC, CREH] .

-- Install the driveshaft covers and noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Observe measures after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY .

Audi RS6 

WARNING:

Fire danger and danger of damaging without engine cover.

  • Before closing the front lid, the engine cover must be installed.
  • Without an engine cover with the front lid closed the vehicle must not be started and must not be driven.

All Vehicles 

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the control modules due to the excess voltage.

  • Do not use a charger to jump start!

-- Check and adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .

-- Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) level and correct if necessary. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) LEVEL, CHECKING .
