Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing: Procedure

-- Vehicles with 3.0L TFSI engine:  Remove the left front muffler. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CYNB] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CTGE, CEUC] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CREC, CREH] .

-- Vehicles with a 3.0L TDI Biturbo engine:  Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CYNB] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CTGE, CEUC] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CREC, CREH] .

-- Remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) oil pan. Refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) filter. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) STRAINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Mechatronic. .

-- If equipped, remove the bolts -arrows-, then remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the :80-200  .

-- Remove the spring pin -2- on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

-- Remove the selector lever and shaft in the direction of -arrow-.

-- Pry out the shaft seal using a small screwdriver.

-- Apply Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) to the circumference and the space between the sealing lips of the new shaft seal.

• Installed position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.

-- Mount the shaft seal on the transmission housing and push it in all the way using a suitable socket in the direction of -arrow-.

-- Install the selector lever and shaft.

NOTE:

If the actuator rod for the locking latch moves too far to the rear, then it can be pulled forward in the direction of -arrow 2- while pushing the locking latch at the same time in the direction of -arrow 1-.

-- Install the spring pin -2- flush on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

-- Install the Mechatronic. .

-- Install the ATF filter. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) STRAINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ATF pan. Refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the exhaust system. Refer to EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CYNB] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CTGE, CEUC] or EXHAUST PIPES/MUFFLERS [For engine(s) CREC, CREH] .

-- Fill with ATF. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF), DRAINING AND FILLING .
