Fuel Tank, Filling With Fuel After Installing High Pressure Pump: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

-- Connect a Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Turn the ignition on.

-- Select "engine electronics" in OBD.

-- Select "Guided Functions".

-- Then select "Activate fuel pump".

-- Select "120 seconds".

-- The fuel pump starts.

-- Repeat the step.

-- The fuel pump must run for approximately four minutes to make sure the fuel system is sufficiently filled with fuel.

-- Start the engine after filling the fuel system.

-- Let the engine run for a few minutes at an average RPM and then shut it off.

-- Check fuel system for leaks.

-- Erase the fault stored in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Perform a road test where the accelerator pedal is pressed all the way down at least one time. Then check the high pressure area again for leaks.

NOTE:

If there is still air in the fuel system, the engine may switch to emergency mode during the road test. Turn off the engine and erase the DTC memory. Then continue the road test.

-- Check the DTC memory one more time.
