Section 91 (HVAC System (Heater, Ventilator And A/C)): Evaporator: Removal

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
Using the refrigerant recovery system, discharge refrigerant. < Ref. to PROCEDURE , Refrigerant Recovery Procedure. >
Remove the bolt and detach the hose and pipe from the expansion valve.
CAUTION: Seal the disconnected hose and pipe with a plug or vinyl tape to prevent foreign matter from entering.

Remove the instrument panel lower. < Ref. to INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER , REMOVAL, Center Console. >
Remove the blower motor unit. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Blower Motor Unit Assembly. >
Remove the screw and remove the evaporator pipe cover.

Remove the evaporator pipe mounting bolt, and evaporator cover mounting screw and clip.

Remove the evaporator cover and evaporator pipe.
CAUTION: Since the evaporator cover and the evaporator pipe cannot be removed by itself, remove them as a unit.

1. Disengage the evaporator and the pipe.
2. Remove the evaporator pipe with the evaporator cover.
Remove the evaporator.
CAUTION: If the evaporator is replaced, add an appropriate amount of compressor oil to evaporator. < Ref. to REPLACEMENT , Compressor Oil. >
