WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Before disconnecting the PAM or any of the sensors, verify that the connectors are properly seated and latched.
- G1 CHECK THE PAM DTCs
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.
Are parking aid DTCs other than B1B36:96, B1B38:96, B1B40:96 or B1B42:96 recorded?
Yes DIAGNOSE the other DTCs first. REFER to the Parking Aid Module (PAM) DTC Chart . No GO to G2. - G2 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR OPERATIONNOTE: Make sure the area around the vehicle is clear of anything that might activate the parking aid system.
- Clean the bumper and sensors with high-pressure water.
- Carry out the azimuth system check. Refer to Azimuth System Check .
- Carry out the elevation system check. Refer to Elevation System Check .
Does the parking aid system pass both system checks?
Yes The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a dirty or blocked parking aid sensor. No GO to G3. - G3 CHECK THE REAR PARKING AID SENSOR DISTANCE PIDs
- Make sure the suspect parking aid sensor(s) is flush-mounted in the bezel.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Parking Aid PID.
- With the brake pedal applied, shift the transmission into DRIVE (D) and monitor the parking aid sensor distance PIDs. The PID reads 255 cm (8.4 ft) on a correctly functioning sensor.
Do the PIDs read 255 cm (8.4 ft)?
Yes GO to G4. No GO to G5. - G4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR ATTENUATION PIDs
- Check the parking aid sensor attenuation PIDs.
Do all of the attenuation PIDs read between 0 and 16 ms?
Yes GO to G6. No GO to G5. - G5 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
- Install a known good sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor. Refer to Parking Aid Sensor - Front
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PAM DTCs and repeat the self-test.
Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to G6. No INSTALL a new parking aid sensor. REFER to Parking Aid Sensor - Front . - G6 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect the PAM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to Parking Aid Module (PAM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
