Pinpoint Test A : The Vehicle Does Not Start With The Passive Key In Certain Areas Of The Vehicle
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- A1 CHECK THE PASSIVE KEY LOCATION
- Ignition ON.
- Check the location of the passive key. If it is placed in the far corners of the interior of the vehicle, move the passive key out of these areas and attempt to start the vehicle.
Does the vehicle start?
Yes The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the correct operation of the push button start feature. No GO to A2. - A2 CHECK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INTERFERENCE
- Check for the use of any charger or other wireless device that can cause interference with the passive key. If any device is found, remove the device and attempt to start the vehicle.
Does the vehicle start?
Yes The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the cause of the concern and the correct operation of the push button start feature. No GO to A3. - A3 CHECK THE SUSPECT PATS ANTENNA
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Suspect PATS Antenna.
- Measure:
Front
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead Suspect PATS antenna pin 1, component side Suspect PATS antenna pin 2, component side
Is the resistance between 1 and 10 ohms?
Yes GO to A4. No INSTALL a new PATS antenna for the one in question. - A4 CHECK THE PATS ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: RFA Module C4392E .
- Place a passive key in the backup starting location and press the START/STOP button to transition the ignition to RUN.
- For the suspect PATS antenna, measure:
Front PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C347-1 Ground C347-2 Ground Center PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C348-1 Ground C348-2 Ground Rear PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4321-1 Ground C4321-2 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit in question. No GO to A5. - A5 CHECK THE PATS ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- For the suspect PATS antenna, measure:
Front PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C347-1 Ground C347-2 Ground Center PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C348-1 Ground C348-2 Ground Rear PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4321-1 Ground C4321-2 Ground
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to A6. No REPAIR the circuit in question. - A6 CHECK THE PATS ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- For the suspect PATS antenna, measure:
Front PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C347-1 C4392E-1 C347-2 C4392E-2 Center PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C348-1 C4392E-3 C348-2 C4392E-4 Rear PATS Antenna
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4321-1 C4392E-5 C4321-2 C4392E-14
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A7. No REPAIR the circuit in question. - For the suspect PATS antenna, measure:
- A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the RFA module connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System(OASIS) for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
