Removal And Installation

NOTE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital parts and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if installation becomes necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
- 1.
Remove the halfshafts. Refer to Rear Drive Halfshafts .
- 2.
Remove the rear stabilizer bar. Refer to Rear Suspension .
- 3.NOTE: The driveshaft flange fits tightly on the pinion flange pilot. Never hammer on the driveshaft or any of its components to disconnect the driveshaft from the pinion flange. Pry only in the area shown, with a suitable tool, to disconnect the driveshaft flange from the pinion flange or damage to the component may occur.
Disconnect and support the rear driveshaft.

Index mark the driveshaft and pinion flange.
- 2.
Remove and discard the driveshaft flange to pinion flange bolts.- Tighten the new driveshaft flange bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
- 3.
Using a prybar, separate the driveshaft flange from the pinion flange.
- 4.
Support the driveshaft.

- 8.NOTE: Move the axle housing forward to clear the rear mounting studs from the bushings.
Lower the axle housing from the vehicle.
