Removal And Installation

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

  1. 1.

    Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .

  1. 2.

    At the bottom of the steering wheel cover, locate the hole and insert the hexagonal screwdriver.

  1. 3.

    Detach the driver airbag from the steering wheel.

    1. 1.

      Push in on the hexagonal screwdriver, disengaging the spring clip from the driver airbag retainer.

      Pull the driver airbag out.

  1. 4.

    At the LH side of the steering wheel cover, locate the hole and insert the hexagonal screwdriver.

  1. 5.

    Detach the driver airbag from the steering wheel.

      Push in on the hexagonal screwdriver, disengaging the spring clip from the driver airbag retainer.

    1. 2.

      Pull the driver airbag out.

  1. 6.

    At the RH side of the steering wheel cover, locate the hole and insert the hexagonal screwdriver.

  1. 7.

    Detach the driver airbag from the steering wheel.

      Push in on the hexagonal screwdriver, disengaging the spring clip from the driver airbag retainer.

      Pull the driver airbag out.

  1. 8.

    Disconnect the 2 driver air bag module and 1 horn switch electrical connectors and remove the driver airbag.

Installation 

WARNING: Incorrect repair techniques or actions can cause an accidental pyrotechnic device deployment. Make sure the supplemental restraint and pedestrian protection system (if equipped) is depowered before reconnecting the component. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering . Failure to precisely follow depowering instructions could result in serious personal injury from an accidental deployment.

  1. 1.

    Connect the 2 driver air bag module and 1 horn switch electrical connectors.

  1. 2.

    Align the driver air bag module to the steering wheel, firmly push the driver airbag into the steering wheel and engage the 3 driver airbag retainers to the 3 steering wheel spring clips.

    Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
