Rear Differential

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2012 Subaru Forester. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: If gear oil is spilt over the exhaust pipe, wipe it off with a cloth to avoid emitting smoke or causing a fire.
  1. Drain the oil by removing oil drain plug.
  2. Remove the filler plug for quick draining oil.
  3. Install the drain plug after draining oil.
    NOTE: Apply liquid gasket to the drain plug threads.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 1105 (Part No. 004403010) or equivalent 

    Tightening torque: 

    49 N.m (5.0 kgf-m, 36.2 ft-lb) 

  4. After installing the drain plug onto rear differential gear case firmly, fill oil up fully to the mouth of filler plug.
    CAUTION: Each oil manufacturer has its base oil and additives. Thus, do not mix two or more brands.

    Recommended gear oil: 

    GL-5 (75W-90) or equivalent 

    Oil capacity: 

    0.8 l (0.8 US qt, 0.7 lmp qt)

  5. Attach the filler plug to the rear differential case securely.
    NOTE: Apply liquid gasket to the filler plug threads.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 7 705 (Part No. 004403010) or equivalent 

    Tightening torque: 

    49 N.m (5.0 kgf-m, 36.2 ft-lb)
