Bearing Pre-Load For Ball Bearings For The Center Differential, Redetermining

This adjustment is necessary when replacing the following parts:
- Transmission cover
- Output wheel/drive wheel
- Spacer sleeve
- Center differential
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Arbor 50 mm Dia.VW 432
- Thrust Pad VW 447 H
- Ruler T40100
- Digital Depth Gauge VAS 6087
- The outer race/tapered roller bearing for mounting drive wheel/spur gear is installed in the transmission cover.
- Drive wheel/spur gear, spacer sleeve and the center differential are installed.
-- Mount the T40100 on the clean joint surface on the transmission cover.
-- Use a depth gauge -1- (for example VAS 6087) to digitally measure the space between the ball bearing -2- and the ruler.
NOTE:
Mount tools VW 447h and VW 432 to keep the center differential from tipping while measuring.
In this example, the dimension -a- = 142.45 mm.
-- Add the height of the T 40100 to this measurement.
