Overview - ATF System

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transmission or if the ATF pan has been removed.

NOTE:

Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or defective.

Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission, refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

General repair instructions, refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .

Coat O-rings and seals with ATF. Other types of lubrication lead to faults in the transmission hydraulics.

- Removing and installing, refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

- Tightening specification and sequence: Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm in the sequence -1 to 19-.

- Installing into the connector housing -item 10- OVERVIEW - ATF SYSTEM.
Connector Housing
Bolt
- 5.5 Nm
ATF Pipe
Bolt
- 10 Nm
- For attaching the Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195- to the transmission housing
O-Ring
- Replacing
- On the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump 1 -V475- connection
Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump 1 -V475-
- Removing and installing, refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID AUXILIARY HYDRAULIC PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Bolt
- 10 Nm
- Quantity: 3
- For the Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump 1 -V475- on the transmission housing
Magnets
- Make sure the entire surface contacts the ATF filter
- clean before installation
Bolt
- Replacing
- Tightening specification and sequence: 4 Nm + 45° additional turn
Drain Plug
- For the ATF in the transmission
- Tightening specification: 12 Nm

NOTE:

Replaced the bolts for the ATF pan.

-- Tighten the bolts in three steps in the sequence shown:

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1.	-1 to 12-	Install the new bolts by hand until the bolt heads touch
2.	-1 to 12-	4 Nm
3.	-1 to 12-	45° additional turn

-- Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm in the sequence -1 to 19-.

NOTE:

Bolts -18 and 19- are shorter.

The bolt -18- attaches the Transmission Output Speed Sensor -G195- to the transmission housing.

Bolt -19-, if equipped, attaches the Mechatronic connector to the transmission housing.
