Fuel Supply System Safety Precautions

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2017 Audi Q5, 2016 Audi Q5, 2015 Audi Q5, 2014 Audi Q5, and 2013 Audi Q5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Note the following when working on the fuel supply:

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under very high pressure.

  • The fuel injection system is separated into a high-pressure section (maximum approximately 120 bar (1740 psi)) and a low-pressure section (4 to 7 bar (58 to 101.5 psi)).
  • Before opening high pressure area, fuel pressure must be reduced to a residual pressure of approximately 6 bar (87 psi). Procedure, refer to HIGH FUEL PRESSURE, REDUCING .

To prevent personal injury and damage to the injection and ignition system, observe the following:

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.

WARNING:

Burn risk due to escaping fuel.

  • Because the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- runs briefly when the battery is connected and the driver's door is opened, the voltage supply to the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system.

-- Remove the fuse for the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- in the Fuse Panel B -SB- in the engine compartment E-box; fuse assignment, refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM.
