Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B
- Compression Tester Kit VAG1763
Test sequence
Engine oil temperature: minimum 30 °C (86 °F)
Battery voltage at least 12.7 V
-- Remove the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the ignition coils with power output stages, refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the spark plugs using a Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B.
-- Check the compression pressure using the Compression Tester Kit VAG1763 and Compression Tester Kit - Adapter 6 VAG1763/6.
For information on using the tester, refer to the Operating Instructions.
-- Operate the starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression Pressure:

-- Install the spark plugs, refer to SPARK PLUGS, REPLACING .
-- Install the ignition coils with power output stages, refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If there are any faults stored in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory that occurring during testing, erase them on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Guided Functions , Check DTC Memory , then Generate Readiness Code .
