Left And Right Timing Chain Covers, Removing And Installing: Installing
Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.
- Cover open parts of engine.
Danger of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the sealant residue on the covers for the timing chain, cylinder block and cylinder head, for example using a rotating plastic brush.
-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.
-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 mm).
The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces on the left timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2.5 mm
Covers for timing chain must be installed within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
-- Position the left timing chain cover and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.
-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces on the right timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.
- Sealant bead thickness: 2.5 mm
-- Position the right timing chain cover and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory .
-- Install the affected AIR combination valve, refer to LEFT COMBINATION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , and RIGHT COMBINATION VALVE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
