Windshield Washer System, Freeze Protection And Fluid Level, Checking And Filling (If Necessary)
Warning information for the high voltage system:
Procedures for which the ignition needs to be switched off. Refer to PROCEDURES FOR WHICH THE IGNITION NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED OFF .
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Refractometer T10007 A
Freeze protection (anti-freeze) must be guaranteed to approximately -25 C (approximately -35 C in countries with an arctic climate) in the washer system.
The correct mixture ratio of windshield washer fluid prevents the spray nozzles, the windshield washer fluid reservoir and the connecting hoses from freezing.
During warmer periods of the year the windshield washer fluid concentrate in the windshield washer fluid removes wax and oil deposits from the windshield.
Perform the following:
-- Use the pipette to put a drop of windshield washer fluid on the refractometer glass, then close the cover glass.
A light-dark line is clearly visible on the "WATERLINE" scale.
-- Use the Refractometer T10007 A to check the freeze protection for the windshield washer fluid. To do this, read the refractometer scale -4- value on the light-dark line.
-- If necessary, adapt the freeze protection value by changing the mixture ratio:
Mixture Ratio
| Freeze protection to | Windshield washer fluid concentrate G 052 164 | Water |
|---|---|---|
| -18 °C | 1 part | 3 part |
| -23 °C | 1 part | 2 part |
| -38 °C | 1 part | 1 part |
Filling with Fluid
The windshield washer fluid reservoir must be full.
Perform the following:
-- Check the fluid level in the windshield washer fluid reservoir and fill the windshield washer fluid in the correct mixture ratio , if necessary.
-- To do this, open the container cap and fill with fluid.
