6-Cylinder 3.2L FSI Gasoline Engine

Procedures for which the ignition needs to be switched off. Refer to PROCEDURES FOR WHICH THE IGNITION NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED OFF .

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing the Ignition Coils from Cylinder Bank 1 

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to 6-CYLINDER 3.2L FSI GASOLINE ENGINE .

-- Remove air guide hose and air filter housing lower section. Refer to LOWER AIR FILTER HOUSING , also see AIR FILTER OVERVIEW .

-- Loosen wiring harness bolts -1- on the ignition coils -3-.

-- Pull the ignition coils out approximately 30 mm out of the spark plug shaft using Ignition Coil Puller T40039.

-- Disengage connectors -2- and at the same time remove them from the ignition coils -3-.

-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.

-- Remove all of the ignition coils out of the cylinder head with the Ignition Coil Puller T40039 in the -direction of the arrow-.

-- Remove spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B.

Removing the Ignition Coils from Cylinder Bank 2 

-- Remove coolant reservoir -arrows- and disconnect the connectors on the Engine Coolant Level Warning Switch -F66- from the bottom of the coolant reservoir.

-- Set coolant reservoir with the coolant hoses attached -1- and -3- aside.

-- Loosen wiring harness bolts on the ignition coils -arrows-.

-- Disengage the connectors and at the same time remove them from the ignition coils.

-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.

-- Remove all of the ignition coils out of the cylinder head with the Ignition Coil Puller T40039 in the -direction of arrow-.

-- Remove spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B.

Installing Both Cylinder Banks 

-- Use the Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B to tighten the new ignition coils to specification.

-- Align all the ignition coils in sequence and insert them loosely into the spark plug shaft.

-- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand. Do not use any tools.

Installation is the reverse of removal.
