6-Cylinder 3.0L TFSI Gasoline Engine
Warning information for the high voltage system:
Procedures for which the ignition needs to be switched off. Refer to PROCEDURES FOR WHICH THE IGNITION NEEDS TO BE SWITCHED OFF .
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122B
- Ignition Coil Puller T40039
Removing Cylinder Bank 1 (Right)
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .
-- Free up the fuel line -4- and the line -1- from the EVAP canister on the air filter housing and air duct pipe.
-- Remove vacuum hose -2-.
-- Remove the air duct pipe by loosening the hose clamp -3- and opening the clamps -arrows-.
-- Remove air filter housing lower section, refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING , also see AIR FILTER OVERVIEW .
-- Remove connector strip -arrows- bolts.
-- Push the plug toward the ignition coil, disengage the locking mechanism and disconnect the connector from the ignition coils.
-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.
Ignore items -1 and 2-.
Removing Cylinder Bank 2 (Left)
Different coolant reservoirs are installed.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- from the coolant reservoir.
-- Disconnect the connector for the Engine Coolant Level Warning Switch -F66- on the bottom of the coolant reservoir and move the reservoir with the coolant hoses still connected -1 through 3- and to the side.
-- Remove connector strip -arrows- bolts.
-- Push the plug toward the ignition coil, disengage the locking mechanism and disconnect the connector from the ignition coils.
-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.
Ignore items -1 through 3-.
Continuation for both sides
-- Position the Ignition Coil Puller T40039 on the topmost thick rib -arrow- and remove the ignition coils from the spark plugs in sequence.
-- Remove spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B.
Installing
-- Use the Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B to tighten the new ignition coils to specification.
-- Align all the ignition coils in sequence and insert them loosely into the spark plug shaft.
-- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand. Do not use any tools.
-- Push the connector strip connectors toward the ignition coil until the locking mechanism engages.
-- Tighten connector strip bolts to specification.
-- Installation is the reverse of removal.
-- Install engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .
