Shift Mechanism, Adjusting: Procedure

-- Remove shift knob with cover. Refer to SHIFT KNOB WITH SHIFT LEVER BOOT .

-- Remove the front ashtray -1-. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the noise insulation over the shift mechanism. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Check the push rod adjustment dimension -x-.

-- If this is not the case, adjust distance -x- as follows:

-- Loosen the push rod bolt -arrow-.

-- Adjust -x- by moving the selector lever bearing.

-- Tighten the push rod bolt -arrow- in this position. Tightening specification SHIFT MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .

-- Loosen the push rod bolt -arrow-.

Align Shift Lever as Follows:

-- Center bottom of shift lever in middle of shift lever support.

-- Align shift lever so that it points in direction of travel and faces only very slightly (3.5°) toward right.

-- Hold shift lever in this position.

-- Tighten the push rod bolt -arrow-. Tightening specification, refer to item  14.

NOTE:

Shift lever position must not change after tightening bolt.
