Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (VEHICLES WITH ENGINE CODE CGQB): Removing

-- Remove the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead, refer to OVERVIEW - BULKHEAD .

-- Release the cover -3- and swivel it to the side -arrow-.

-- Connect the E-Box VAS6395A/1 to the positive terminal -2- and to the ground -1- using the Connection Cable VAS6395/2.

Procedure for E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395A/1:

-- Select the software version using the ↑ -item 5- and ↓ -item 6- buttons.

-- Press the v button -item 4- to confirm the software version.

NOTE:

In this example, Hella software -1- is selected.

Procedure for Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395/1:

Check the software version of the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395/1:

CAUTION:

Danger of damaging the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.

Make sure the correct software is loaded in the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395/1 before performing the following procedure:

If the correct software is loaded, the following will be displayed on the E-box VAS6395/1 (2 seconds after the voltage supply is connected):

> 1. START
2. NEXT [>]

NOTE:

If the following appears in the display, then incorrect software has been loaded:

1. >TEST

2. LEARN

If this is the case, then download the software from "Audi Service Net", "Workshop Equipment".

For both E-boxes:

-- Disconnect the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- connector.

-- Connect the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Wire Set VAS6395/2 with the Adapter VAS6395/8 on the Turbocharger Control Module 2 -J724- and on the E-Box VAS6395A/1.

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1 display:

> 1. START
2. NEXT [>]

-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.

The E-Positioner Tester VAS6395A/1 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 2\1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1:

NOTE:

If "[OK]" appears in the display, then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range is OK.

If "FAULT [OK]" appears in the display, tap the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing several times with a screwdriver handle and then the v button -item 4- to repeat the test.

-- Unclip the lock washer -2-.

-- Disengage the coupling rod -3- from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 - J724- and move downward.

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

NOTE:

The other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.

-- Attach the E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395/7 to the center opening in the bracket for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and tighten the bolt to -arrow- 8 Nm.

NOTE:

The centering pins on the E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395/7 must engage in the bracket opening for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.

-- Reengage the coupling rod and secure.

-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.

To determine the voltage, the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will check back and forth several times between the stops.
Then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will go into the in installation position.

-- While determining the voltage, tap on the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing with the handle of a screwdriver until the following appears in the display:

Select on the E-Box VAS6395A/1 display:

X, XXX V
[↑][↓][OK]

-- Write down the voltage.

Specified value: 3.3 to 3.7 V.

NOTE:

If "FAULT [OK]" appears or if the voltage is less than 3.3 V or greater than 3.7 V, disconnect the E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395A/1 and repeat the entire procedure .

-- Separate the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Wire Set VAS6395/2 with the Adapter VAS6395/8 from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.

CAUTION:

The voltage supply for the E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395A/1 must remain connected.

-- Unclip the lock washer.

-- Disengage the coupling rod -4- from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 - J724- and move downward.

-- Remove the screws -1, 2 and 3- and dispose of them.

NOTE:

The other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.

-- Remove the old Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and dispose of it.
