MECHATRONIC Unit: Removing
- Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
- General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
- Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or faulty.
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .
-- Remove the ATF strainer. Refer to ATF STRAINER .
There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.
- Before touching or removing the Mechatronics unit, you must first discharge yourself of any static electricity by touching (bare handed) some grounded metal object (for example car, lifting platform).
-- Touch the vehicle ground with a bare hand to discharge the static electricity.
- To remove the Mechatronic, first remove the connector -C- and the wiring harness -B- from the mechatronic. The wiring harness connector -A- remains installed in the transmission housing.
- If the tab -arrow- on the backside of the wiring harness breaks off, the wiring harness must be replaced.
- The following description shows the Mechatronic removed. The wiring harness connector -A- is still installed in the transmission housing.
- The connector -C- may be installed with or without locking mechanisms -1- and -2- depending on the version.
-- Release both locking mechanisms -1- and -2- on the connector -C-, if applicable.
-- Disconnect the connector -C- from the socket -D- on the Mechatronic.
-- Remove the wiring harness -A- from the Mechatronic -B-. Disengage the tab -arrow-, on the back of the wiring harness, from the Mechatronic.
If the tab -arrow- on the backside of the wiring harness breaks off, the wiring harness must be replaced.
-- Carefully lay the wiring harness aside.
The wiring harness is connected to the installed connector -3- and cannot be removed.
-- Remove Mechatronic bolts in reverse order, for example first bolt -14-, then -13-, through -1-.
- Only the indicated bolts -14 through 1- may be loosened.
- If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the Mechatronic unit or it may come apart.
-- Remove the Mechatronic from the transmission.
