Brake Fluid General Information

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2017 Audi SQ5, 2017 Audi Q5, 2016 Audi SQ5, 2016 Audi Q5, and 2015 Audi SQ5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
  • Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!
  • Wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with the skin with a lot of water.
  • If it contacts the eyes, wash out the eye and see a doctor.
  • Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Mineral oil damages the plugs and rubber grommets in the brake system.
  • Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air, and must therefore be stored in air-tight containers.
  • When bleeding, brake fluid that has been flushed through must not be reused and must be disposed of properly.
  • Observe waste disposal regulations!
  • Due to its corrosive effect, brake fluid cannot come in contact with paint or painted parts.

Even the smallest amount on a seal or boot can cause the part to change and thereby affect the function of the brake system. The results of an unclean brake system first show themselves months later, causing increased repair costs, especially on vehicles with ABS.
