Selector Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the selector lever handle, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front ashtray, refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the insulation mat -1-, disconnect connectors -arrows-.

-- Remove the bolts -1, 3, 5 and 6- and lower the selector mechanism function unit while holding the selector lever secure.

NOTE:

Ignore items -2 and 4-.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-, refer to REAR NOISE INSULATION .

Vehicles with A Single Pipe Exhaust System

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the decoupling element inside the front exhaust pipe.

  • Do not bend decoupling element in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

-- Loosen the bolts -arrows-, slide the sleeve to the rear and tie up the front exhaust pipe to the body.

Vehicles with Dual Pipe Exhaust System

CAUTION:

The decoupling elements in the front muffler could be damaged.

  • Do not bend decoupling element in front muffler more than 10°.

-- Loosen clamping sleeve -1- and push it rearward.

-- Slightly lower the left front muffler and secure.

All Vehicles

-- Mount the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support T10337 on the Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG1383A and place it under the transmission.

-- Raise the transmission slightly.

WARNING:

There is the risk of an accident.

  • The Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG1383A may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember -arrows-.

-- Lower the transmission with the Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG1383A just far enough until the transmission fluid pan is not touching the crossbrace.

-- Vehicles with a heat shield: Remove heat shield -1- under the selector mechanism function unit, refer to the OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .

-- Vehicles with noise insulation: remove the circlip -arrows-, remove noise insulation -1-.

-- Vehicles with a selector lever heat shield: remove the bolts -arrows-, remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the Pry Lever 80-200.

-- Press the securing clips -2- off and remove the selector lever cable from the transmission.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Remove the selector mechanism function unit.
