Selector Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the front ashtray, refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors -2 and 4-.

NOTE:

The illustration does not show the insulation mat.

-- Remove the insulation mat over the selector mechanism function unit.

-- Remove the bolts -1, 3, 5 and 6- and lower the selector mechanism function unit while holding the selector lever secure.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-, refer to REAR NOISE INSULATION .

-- Disconnect the cable from the crossbraces -1 and 2-.

CAUTION:

The suspension components could be damaged.

Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

Do not support the vehicle on the subframe or on the subframe crossbrace (for example using a floor jack or something similar).

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the subframe crossbrace.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the driveshaft heat shield -1- (if equipped).

-- Remove the driveshaft, refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front muffler, refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, NON-HYBRID VEHICLES or FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING HYBRID VEHICLES .

-- Mount the Engine/Gearbox Jack - Gearbox Support T10337 on the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931 and attach it under the transmission.

-- Raise the transmission slightly.

WARNING:

There is the risk of an accident.

  • The Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931 may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.

-- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember -arrows-.

-- Lower the transmission to dimension -a- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS6931.

-- If equipped remove the heat shield -1- under the gearshift mechanism function unit, refer to OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .

-- Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the Pry Lever 80-200.

-- Loosen the nuts -2- on the selector lever cable. This makes it possible to remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Remove the selector mechanism function unit.
