Automatic Transmission Fluid Cooler And Lines Overview

NOTE:

Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

General Repair Instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the engine bung set VAS 6122.

Check ATF level after replacing ATF pipes. Refer to ATF, CHECKING LEVEL AND CORRECTING 

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the transmission.

  • Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
  • The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.

  1. ATF Cooler
  2. O-ring
    • Removing and installing
    • Coat with ATF before inserting
  3. ATF Pipe, Return
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
  4. O-ring
    • Removing and installing
    • Coat with ATF before inserting
  5. ATF Pipe, Supply
    • From the transmission to the ATF cooler
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
  6. Bolt
    • 5 Nm
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
  7. ATF Pipe, Supply
    • From the transmission to the ATF cooler
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
    • Nuts on lines, 29 Nm
    • The ATF pipes are secured to each other
  8. Bolt
    • 8 Nm
  9. Bracket
  10. ATF Pipe, Return
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
    • Nuts on lines, 29 Nm
    • The ATF pipes are secured to each other
  11. Bolt
    • 20 Nm
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
    • The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must lie on the transmission threads
    • The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must lie on the lower one.
  12. O-ring
    • Removing and installing
    • Coat with ATF before inserting
