Ignition System Safety Precautions
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Audi A4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
To prevent personal injury and damage to the injection and ignition system, observe the following:
- Do not touch or remove ignition wires when engine is running or turning at starter speed.
- The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection and ignition system wiring or tester cables.
- Wash the engine only when the ignition is turned off.
- If the engine was started while the electrical connectors were disconnected, then the following fault is stored in the engine control module: "generate readiness code" in "Guided Functions" using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- If engine is to be cranked at starting RPM without starting (e.g. for compression testing), disconnect connectors from ignition coils and from fuel injectors. After performing work, check and erase DTC memory.
CAUTION:
Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
- Observe the steps for disconnecting the battery.
- Always turn off the ignition before disconnecting the battery.
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
