Removing And Installing
Removing Cylinder Bank 1 (Right)
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .
-- Remove the air guide -arrow-.
-- Free up the fuel lines -1- and -2- to the EVAP canister on the air guide pipe.
-- Remove the vacuum hose -3-.
-- Remove the air guide pipe by loosening the hose clamp -4- and opening the clamps -arrows-.
-- Disconnect the vacuum line -1- and remove the air filter housing.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Intake Air Switch-Over Valve -N335- (depending on the version).
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the connector strip.
-- Disconnect the connector -5- from the Camshaft Position Sensor 3 -G300-.
-- Press the releases and disconnect the connectors -1- from the Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- and Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-.
Ignore items -2, 3 and 4-.
-- Push the connector toward the ignition coil, open the lock by hand and connect the connector to the ignition coils.
-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.
Removing Cylinder Bank 2 (Left)
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the coolant reservoir.
-- Disconnect the connector from the Engine Coolant Level Warning Switch -F66- at the bottom of the coolant reservoir and move the coolant reservoir to the side with the coolant hoses -1 through 3- still connected.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the connector strip.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Camshaft Position Sensor 2 -G163- and connector -4- from the Camshaft Position Sensor 4 -G301-.
-- Remove the screw -5- from the ground wire.
Ignore items -2 and 3-.
-- Push the connector toward the ignition coil, open the lock by hand and connect the connector to the ignition coils.
-- Move the wiring harness slightly down.
Continuation for Both Sides
-- Position the Ignition Coil Puller T40039 only on the topmost thick rib -arrow- and pull the ignition coils one after the other off the spark plugs.
-- Remove the spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B.
Installing
-- Use the Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B to tighten the new ignition coils to specification.
-- Lubricate the ignition coils. Refer to IGNITION COIL, LUBRICATING .
-- Align all the ignition coils one after the other and insert them loosely into the spark plug shaft.
-- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand. Do not hit them.
-- Connect the connector to the ignition coil until it clicks into place.
-- Tighten the screws to the tightening specification.
-- Installation is the reverse of removal.
-- Install engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .
