Removing And Installing

Version 1, Removing 

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .

-- Remove the bolts -1- from the connector strip.

-- Push the connector -2- toward the ignition coil, open the retainer by hand and disconnect the connector.

-- Position the Ignition Coil Puller T40039 only on the topmost thick rib -arrow- and pull the ignition coils one after the other off the spark plugs.

NOTE:

Note the installed position of ignition coils with power output stages.

Be careful to not kink or damage the wiring.

-- Remove the spark plugs with Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B.

Version 1, Installing 

-- Use the Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B to tighten the new ignition coils to specification.

-- Lubricate the ignition coils. Refer to IGNITION COIL, LUBRICATING .

-- Align all the ignition coils one after the other and insert them loosely into the spark plug shaft.

-- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand. Do not hit them.

-- Push the connector -arrows- toward the ignition coil at the same time until it locks.

-- Tighten the screw -1- on the connector strip to the tightening specification.

-- Install engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .

Tightening specification Nm
Spark plugs in cylinder head 30
Connector strip bolts 5

Version 2, Removing 

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .

-- Remove the connector -1- for the Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39- from the bracket.

NOTE:

Ignore items -2 through 4-.

-- Unlock the connector -1 through 4- disconnect all connectors in -direction of arrow- from the ignition coils.

-- Remove the ignition coil bolts -arrows-.

-- Carefully remove ignition coils upward.

NOTE:

Note the installed position of ignition coils with power output stages.

Version 2, Installing 

-- Use the Spark Plug Removal Tool VAS 3122B to tighten the new ignition coils to specification.

-- Lubricate the ignition coils. Refer to IGNITION COIL, LUBRICATING .

-- Align all the ignition coils one after the other and insert them loosely into the spark plug shaft.

-- Press the ignition coils evenly onto the spark plugs by hand. Do not hit them.

-- Tighten the ignition coil bolts to specification.

-- Connect the connector at the same time.

-- Install engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING .
