Radiator, Removing And Installing: Removing

NOTE:

If there are small impressions on the fins. Refer to COOLER AND CONDENSER ASSEMBLY .

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the impact member. Refer to IMPACT MEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the charge air cooler. Refer to CHARGE AIR COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Audi A4 Vehicles 

-- Remove the right headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- In vehicles with a headlamp washer system, remove the right headlamp washer system spray nozzle. Refer to HEADLAMP WASHER SYSTEM .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the Passenger Side Front Airbag Crash Sensor - G284-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - AIRBAG CRASH SENSORS .

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Unclip the right headlamp mount -arrows- and remove it.

All Vehicles

-- Place the Shop Crane - Drip Tray VAS6208 under engine.

-- Remove the drain plug -1- and drain the coolant.

-- Remove the coolant hose -2- from the radiator by raising the retaining clip.

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury if the radiator fan turns on by itself.

  • Disconnect the connectors before working near the fan shroud.

-- Remove the coolant fan connector -1- from the bracket and disconnect it by sliding the retainer back -arrow- and pressing the release down.

-- Remove the bolts -1, 2, 3 and 5-.

-- Lift the lock carrier cover -4- and disengage it from the radiator grille -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the connections -1 and 2- from the radiator by removing the retaining clip.

-- Remove the air duct -1- and intermediate flange -2-.

Vehicles with S tronic /multitronic Transmissions

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the separating point.

NOTE:

Follow the rules for clean working conditions when working on the transmission. Refer to, GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS for Multitronic Transmission Code(s): 0AW, GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS for 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission 0B5, GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS for Transmission Code(s): 0B6, or CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS for Transmission Code(s): 0BK .

-- Remove the bolts -arrow- and disconnect the ATF lines from the radiator.

NOTE:

To prevent ATF from leaking, secure all ATF lines to the top of the longitudinal member.

Seal off any open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS6122 to prevent dirt from getting in.

All Vehicles

-- Release the retaining tabs in direction of -A arrows- and remove the left and right air ducts -1- upward in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Release the left and right radiator retaining pins and remove by pulling upward in direction of -arrows-.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -1- and remove the radiator console with the radiator from the lock carrier in direction of -arrow-.

-- Lower the radiator slightly.

-- Have a second technician release the retaining clamps -1- in direction of -arrow A- and remove the condenser -2- upward out of the mounts on the radiator in direction of -B arrows-.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the condenser and refrigerant lines and hoses.

  • Do not bend, twist or stretch the refrigerant lines and hoses.

-- Tip the condenser with the lines connected forward.

-- Remove the radiator.

-- Press the fan shroud left and right locking tabs at the same time -arrow- and remove the fan shroud upward from the radiator.
