Overview - ATF Circuit, For 8-Cylinder Engines

NOTE:
Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS6122.
Check ATF level after replacing ATF pipes. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
CAUTION:
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
- The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.
- O-Ring
- Replacing
- Coat with ATF before installing
- ATF pipe, supply
- Connection piece on ATF cooler
- with connector coupling, refer to -item 14- Connector Coupling.
- Bolt
- 5 Nm
- First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
- Bolt
- 9 Nm
- Secures the ATF pipe on the engine
- ATF Pipe, Return
- From the ATF cooler to the transmission
- With connector coupling, refer to -item 14- Connector Coupling.
- ATF Pipe, Supply
- From the transmission to the ATF cooler
- Bolt
- 23 Nm
- Secures the ATF pipe with the driveshaft heat shield
- Nut
- 8 Nm
- Secures the ATF pipe on the engine
- O-Ring
- Replacing
- Coat with ATF before installing
- Transmission
- Bolt
- 20 Nm
- First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
- The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must fit inside the threaded hole in the transmission.
- The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must touch the bottom one.

- Replacing
- Is installed in the connector coupling, refer to -item 14- Connector Coupling.
- Coat with ATF before installing
- Clip
Refer to Fig 1
- To separate the connector coupling remove the securing clip. Refer to -item 14- Connector Coupling.
- To install the ATF pipe on the connector coupling, first let the clip engage 3 times in the connector coupling.

- Connection piece on ATF cooler
- From the ATF cooler to the transmission
- Connected with the connector coupling, refer to -item 14- Connector Coupling.
- ATF Cooler
- Integrated in the coolant cooler
- Removing and Installing. Refer to RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for 2.0L, RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for 3.0L, or RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for 3.2L .
