Overview - ATF Circuit, For 8-Cylinder Engines

NOTE:

Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .

Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS6122.

Check ATF level after replacing ATF pipes. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
  • The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.

  1. O-Ring
    • Replacing
    • Coat with ATF before installing
  2. ATF pipe, supply
    • Connection piece on ATF cooler
    • with connector coupling, refer to -item  14- Connector Coupling.
  3. Bolt
    • 5 Nm
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
  4. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
    • Secures the ATF pipe on the engine
  5. ATF Pipe, Return
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • With connector coupling, refer to -item  14- Connector Coupling.
  6. ATF Pipe, Supply
    • From the transmission to the ATF cooler
  7. Bolt
    • 23 Nm
    • Secures the ATF pipe with the driveshaft heat shield
  8. Nut
    • 8 Nm
    • Secures the ATF pipe on the engine
  9. O-Ring
    • Replacing
    • Coat with ATF before installing
  10. Transmission
  11. Bolt
    • 20 Nm
    • First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
    • The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must fit inside the threaded hole in the transmission.
    • The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must touch the bottom one.
  12. O-Ring

    Refer to Fig 1

    • Replacing
    • Is installed in the connector coupling, refer to -item  14- Connector Coupling.
    • Coat with ATF before installing
  13. Clip

    Refer to Fig 1

    • To separate the connector coupling remove the securing clip. Refer to -item  14- Connector Coupling.
    • To install the ATF pipe on the connector coupling, first let the clip engage 3 times in the connector coupling.
  14. Connector Coupling

    Refer to Fig 1

    • To disconnect the ATF pipe, remove the clip, refer to -item  13- Clip.
    • To install the ATF pipes, connect the clip, refer to -item  13- Clip, and replace the O-ring, refer to -item  12- O-Ring.
    • Slide the ATF pipes together and let them engage.
  15. Connector Piece
    • For the connector coupling
  16. ATF Pipe, Return
    • Connection piece on ATF cooler
    • From the ATF cooler to the transmission
    • Connected with the connector coupling, refer to -item  14- Connector Coupling.
