Overview - ATF Circuit, For 4 And 6-Cylinder Engines

NOTE:
Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS6122.
Check ATF level after replacing ATF pipes. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .
CAUTION:
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
- Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
- The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.
- ATF Cooler
- Integrated in the coolant cooler
- Removing and Installing. Refer to RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for 2.0L, or RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING for 3.2L .
- O-Ring
- Replacing
- Coat with ATF before installing
- ATF Pipe, Return
- From the ATF cooler to the transmission
- Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
- O-Ring
- Replacing
- Coat with ATF before installing
- ATF Pipe, Supply
- From the transmission to the ATF cooler
- Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
- Bolt
- 5 Nm
- First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
- ATF Pipe, Supply
- From the transmission to the ATF cooler
- Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
- Nuts on lines, 29 Nm
- The ATF pipes are secured to each other
- Bolt
- 8 Nm
- Bracket
- ATF Pipe, Return
- Nuts on lines, 29 Nm
- From the ATF cooler to the transmission
- Before removal, mark the ATF pipes in relation to each other so they are not switched.
- The ATF pipes are secured to each other
- Bolt
- 20 Nm
- First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
- The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must lie on the transmission threads
- The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must lie on the lower one.

- Replacing
- Coat with ATF before installing
