Rear Flange Shaft Seal, Removing And Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Press Plate VW401
• Press Plate VW402
• Press Piece - Multiple Use VW412
• Press Piece - Press Tube 30-100
• Seal Installer - Cardan Flange T40165

Remove the center differential housing -B-. Refer to CENTER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Remove the circlip -arrow-.

Removing the flange shaft.

-- Place the center differential housing so that the flange shaft does not contact the Press Plates VW401 and VW402 when pressing it on.

Pry out the shaft seal -1-.

Installing Shaft Seal

Lightly coat the shaft seal on the outer circumference with oil and then install it until it stops. Do not bend the seal.

-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease G 052 128 A1.

Install the flange shaft.

• The flange shaft ball bearing in installed.
• The Press Piece - Press Tube 30-100 presses on the inner race of the ball bearing when pressing in.

-- Mount the flange shaft seal -arrow-.

-- Install the center differential and the center differential housing. Refer to INSTALLING .
