Overview - Hydraulic Line, Reservoir, Vehicles With 6-Cylinder Diesel Engine, Vehicles With Dynamic Steering

The power steering pump is not designed to be serviced. If there are customer complaints, the cause must be determined using a pressure and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the power steering pump.

NOTE:

If power steering fluid is low in reservoir, check steering system for leaks.

If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.

The power steering pump is delivered without oil. Before installing, fill pump with Hydraulic Fluid and turn pump by hand. Otherwise, the power steering pump may be noisy when operating or may even be damaged.

Tensioning Strap
- Attach to body. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
Reservoir
- Note installed position. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Installation position of hoses on the reservoir. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
Cap with Dip Stick
- Fluid Level, Checking. Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

- Remove and install with Hose Clip Pliers VAG1921
Return Hose
- From the hydraulic oil cooler to the reservoir
- Note location on reservoir. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
- Note location on hydraulic oil cooler. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .

Return Line
- From the power steering gear to the hydraulic oil cooler
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the return line completely when installing.
- Mounting on the subframe. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Installation location on the wiring connection. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .
Hydraulic Oil Cooler
- Clipped to the condenser. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Removing and installing. Refer to HYDRAULIC OIL COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 8-CYLINDER FSI, WITH DYNAMIC STEERING .
Power Steering Gear
- Allocate correct version.
- Removing and installing. Refer to HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Pressure Line
- From the power steering pump to the power steering gear
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the pressure line completely when installing.
- Mounting on crossbrace. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Wiring connection installation location. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .

- Mounting to A/C compressor. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Wiring connection installation location. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
Return Line
- From the power steering gear to the hydraulic oil cooler
  CAUTION:
  - Insert the return line completely when installing.

- Mounting on the subframe. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH AND WITHOUT DYNAMIC STEERING .
- Note location on hydraulic oil cooler. Refer to HOSE LINES TO RESERVOIR, HYDRAULIC FLUID COOLER AND RETURN LINE INSTALLED POSITION .

Power Steering Pump

Intake Hose

- Note power steering pump location. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP, VEHICLES WITH 6-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE, VEHICLES WITH DYNAMIC STEERING .
