Left and right timing chain covers, removing and installing: Removing

NOTE:

All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing, must be replaced in the same position when installing.

Remove coolant expansion tank - arrow -.
Disconnect electrical connection from Engine Coolant Level (ECL) Warning Switch F66 at bottom of coolant reservoir and set aside coolant reservoir with coolant hoses - 1 - and - 2 - connected.

Remove electrical harness connectors - 1 - and - 2 - from bracket.
Free up wiring harness.
Remove nuts and remove left bracket for harness connectors from bulkhead.

NOTE:

Place a rag under oil filter housing to catch escaping engine oil.

Remove cap - arrow - for oil filter housing.
Remove oil filter element.

Remove crankcase ventilation hose - arrow - at left cylinder head cover.

US./Can.-model vehicles:

CAUTION: On US vehicles, crankcase ventilation must not be removed.

Remove left cylinder head cover and lay aside with crankcase ventilation hose connected → Left cylinder head cover, US./Can. vehicles, removing and installing .

Disconnect electrical harness connectors.

Camshaft position (CMP) sensor 2 G163
Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 N208
Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 (exhaust) N319
Camshaft position (CMP) sensor 4 G301

Remove bolts - arrows - and separate electrical connections at ignition coils.
Set electrical wiring harness aside.

Disconnect electrical harness connectors - 1 to 3 -.
Remove nut - arrow -.
Remove retainer for connection - 3 -.
Remove double-bolt lying beneath.

Remove retainer for connections - 1 - and - 2 -.

Disconnect check valve - 1 - from connection at air duct hose.
Remove air duct hose, thereby loosening hose clamp - 2 - and opening clips - arrows -.
