Radial clearance, measuring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Plastigage
Work procedure
NOTE:
- Do not interchange used bearings
- Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.
- Remove guide frame and clean journals.
- Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing shells.
- Plastigage must rest in center of bearing shell.
- Install guide frame and tighten to 30 Nm. Do not turn crankshaft.
- Remove guide frame again.
- Compare width of Plastigage with measuring scale:
- Radial clearance, new: 0.010 to 0.039 mm.
- Radial clearance wear limit: 0.08 mm.
