Vacuum Pump, Removing And Installing, Turbo FSI 4-Cylinder

Before removing the vacuum pump, the high pressure fuel pump must be removed. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

The plenum chamber bulkhead does not have to be removed.

Removing

The vacuum pump is installed in the engine compartment facing the rear -arrow-.

WARNING:

The fuel line is pressurized, do not disconnect!

-- Remove the engine covers carefully from the retaining pins, one after another.

The vacuum pump is installed in the engine compartment on the right side facing the rear.

-- Disconnect the fuel high pressure pump connector -1-.

-- Remove the electric line from the bracket -arrow-.

-- Remove the high pressure fuel pump -2-. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Loosen the ignition coil strip on the bracket.

-- Disconnect the ignition coil connectors -arrow-.

-- Carefully push the ignition coil strip to the side.

-- Disconnect the wires on the high pressure pump and on the vacuum pump and push them to the side.

-- Disconnect the vacuum hose at the hose clamp to the vacuum pump.

CAUTION:

Do not damage the vacuum hose. Replace the vacuum hose if damaged.

-- Remove all the bolts -arrows- on the vacuum pump sealing flange.

NOTE:

Do not disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum line on the plenum chamber bulkhead -2-.

-- Remove the vacuum pump from the mount.

installing

NOTE:

Replace the seal.

Make sure the seal is correctly installed.

-- Position the vacuum pump tappet so it engages in the groove on the camshaft when vacuum pump is installed.

-- Insert the vacuum pump.

-- Make sure the seal is seated correctly.

-- Install and tighten all the bolts -arrows- on the vacuum pump sealing flange, refer to Figure, -item  1- Bolt.

-- Push the new hose clamps over the vacuum hose.

-- Push the vacuum hose over the connection to the vacuum pump.

-- Compress the hose clamp on the vacuum pump connections with pliers.

CAUTION:

Do not damage the vacuum hose. Replace the vacuum hose if damaged.

-- Connect the wires to the high pressure pump and to the vacuum pump.

-- Connect the ignition coil connectors -arrow-.

-- Install the ignition coil strip.

-- Install the high pressure fuel pump. Refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the engine cover.
